How AnyCircumstances Works

Store important files in an encrypted vault, choose the people who may eventually need them, and create a check-in schedule. As long as you keep checking in, your files stay private. If you stop responding and your grace period expires, your designated recipients are emailed secure access to the files you assigned to them.

The full check-in and release flow

  1. Encrypt and upload your files

    Choose the files you want to protect. They are encrypted on your device before upload, so the storage service receives encrypted data instead of the original readable file.

  2. Choose trusted recipients

    Add the people who should receive specific files if your release conditions are eventually met. Different files can be assigned according to who actually needs them.

  3. Choose your check-in schedule

    Set how often AnyCircumstances should expect you to check in. A successful check-in confirms that you still have access to your account and resets the schedule.

  4. Configure your email reminders

    Reminder emails are sent according to the reminder settings you configured.

  5. Set your grace period

    Choose how much extra time you want after a missed check-in. The grace period exists so one forgotten deadline does not immediately release sensitive files.

  6. You check in

    Enter your PIN to confirm the check-in.

  7. If you miss a check-in, the grace period begins

    Nothing is released immediately. You can still complete a successful check-in during the grace period and stop the pending release.

  8. If the grace period expires, recipient delivery begins

    If you still have not checked in when the grace period ends, the designated recipients are emailed a secure link for accessing the files assigned to them.

What happens if I miss a check-in?

Missing a check-in is recoverable. The system is designed to give you another window to respond before recipient delivery occurs.

The pending release stops, the schedule resets, and your recipients are not contacted.

What does a recipient receive?

The recipient receives an email containing a secure link for accessing the files assigned to them. The recipient does not automatically receive every file in your account. Access follows the recipient and file assignments you configured.

A check-in is a trigger, not a determination

AnyCircumstances does not decide whether you have died or whether an emergency has occurred. It only knows whether the check-in conditions you configured were completed. The system follows those rules exactly, which is why choosing a realistic schedule, reliable reminders, and a sensible grace period matters.
